Completed Multi Level Sliding Door Reconstruction for an Oceanfront Property in Oceanside, CA

Indoor-Outdoor Living

Oceanfront Home Upgrade with a Custom Multi-Panel Sliding Glass Door

This multi panel sliding door project in Oceanside was a challenging project, but the end result was definitely worth it. The homeowners wanted to fully open their home to the ocean, not just from one room but across both floors. The existing rear walls limited views and natural light, making the interior feel closed off despite the coastal setting. By installing stackable glass door systems on the first floor and the second-floor bedroom and office, the rear façade was transformed into a near full glass wall.

Achieving this required structural modifications, precise coordination, and weather-resistant detailing suited for oceanfront conditions. With the panels open, both levels now flow toward the outdoors, bringing in natural light, ocean air, and uninterrupted views throughout the home.

Before this transformation, the rear of the home told a very different story.

Existing Conditions

The home sat directly on the ocean, yet the interior felt surprisingly closed off. Small openings and solid walls limited light, airflow, and the connection to the view on both floors.

Structural Modifications

Achieving this required removing load-bearing walls and installing custom steel beams with 8 foot deep footings to carry the upper floor and roof. Large openings were rebuilt with precision to accommodate the size and weight of the multi panel sliding door.

Multi-Panel System Installation

Custom 30 feet wide glass wall was installed and aligned for smooth operation and weather resistance. Detailing at the thresholds and exterior transitions was critical for long-term coastal performance.

Completed Transformation

With the panels open, the boundary between indoors and outdoors nearly disappears. Both floors now share the same light, air, and uninterrupted ocean views, turning the rear of the home into a true glass wall facing the coast.
